I like to call this the HOT MESS EXPRESS CUBE STEAK. By the supper hour time of day I am typically a mega hot mess! It’s 6 p.m. and I’ve forgotten to plan for supper. What is the quickest, most delicious option in the freezer?

CUBE STEAK!

Cube steak is technically “cubed” steak, but since it’s a shortcut, why bother with the “ed” ending. It’s also appropriately called minute steak or tenderized round steak.

It’s a tougher cut of beef that the butcher cuts thin and tenderizes. Which means he pokes a bunch of tiny holes in the meat. It’s a pretty ingenious technique!

Cube steak is thin, so it thaws fast! Like 15 minutes laying out on the counter. Even quicker if you run hot water over our BF Cubed Steak sealed package.

While it thaws, get your other mealtime ingredients ready. For instance, start boiling potatoes if you want mashed taters (they are the best with cube steak and gravy) LOL.

Back to the steak…

  1. Get two shallow bowls. Put milk and a beaten egg in one. Put flour and some seasoning salt in the other.

2. Start heating up a skillet with about ½ an inch of canola or vegetable oil.

3. Once it’s hot, dip each steak into the milk mixture and then into the dry mixture, coating it completely on both sides.

4. Lay into the hot oil. Cook 1 to 2 minutes on each side. Place cooked steaks on a plate lined with paper towels, to drain. Its that quick!

You can now make your mashed potatoes and gravy or just eat the steak as is. That’s how Maggie likes hers! We have to force her to use a knife and fork. LOL

One other tip for cube steak is my personal favorite for a low carb option. Instead of breading, just season the steak with garlic salt and pepper. I lay it in the Air Fryer and bake at 400º for 5 minutes. Flip it over and cook another 3 minutes. Its great with a side of steamed veggies. I have this at least three days a week for lunch. Creature of habit over here!
